Real Mountain Gems II: Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
The vibrant Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is prolific around North Carolina, and mountainous areas in the state. It is attracted to many trees in western North Carolina including the tulip tree, mountain ash, magnolia and birch. This is one piece in a six piece series called Real Mountain Gems II. They are all needle felted with wool and recycled silk, and are presented as "specimens" under glass in shadowbox frames, 10 x 10 inches. They are depictions of real insects that can be found in the mountains of western North Carolina, where the city of Franklin is called the Gem Capital of the World due to the rich mineral and gem deposits in the area.
